Today, i made an unnecessary mistake, one you just one step away from anyone repeating. I accidentally deleted all the Bootcamp files on my Mac trying to fix a storage issue.
A storage issue that would have been solved by an ideal memory allocation, resize and maintenance.

I didn’t check online, didn’t try to confirm the right steps, just followed what I thought was the right steps. I guess the steps i remembered.

Just know some Lessons will be learnt if such mistakes are not learned about.

If you’re running Mac like me, and running Windows using Boot Camp, you might have run out of storage a few times. on either side, there’s no need to delete files or either of the partition. I’ve been running the better way and it’ll help you reallocate storage between the two systems.

Here’s my story, and what should be known

Running both macOS and Windows on my 2017/ 2018 MacBook Pro 14 inch confirmed with curved edges of course. Although i often find myself needing extra space. Having to deal with apps and updates on both sides.

If you work as a developer, you know the feeling. If not, just imaging being called by mobile and pc users needing one help or the other which of course is not an issue for me, being that as a developer and researcher i do this for a living. But all this calls require files to get the complains of these users fixed.

Now you’ve got files piling up, and one day your storage maxes out. Instead of resizing the partitions the right way, I tried to free up space on both sides. Which of course amounted to deleting files. I mistakenly deleted some of the window system files. And that was it.
I mean I’ve always known that resizing and adjusting partitions was possible without losing a single file, but only if it’s done the right way.

The Actual Steps One after the Other To Resize BootCamp Storage Without Losing Files

Simply Adjust Storage on macOS Setup

Open Disk Utility
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.

Locate Your Internal Volumes
On the left sidebar, find your internal storage. You’ll see volumes labeled something like “Macintosh HD – Data” and “BOOTCAMP.”

Select the Volume You Want to Resize
Click on the Mac volume you want to adjust. Be careful not to select the wrong partition.

Click the Partition Button
At the top menu (next to “First Aid”), select Partition.
A pie chart will display the storage distribution.

You want to Adjust the Size
On the pie chart or under the size input, you can drag to resize or enter a new storage size.
If there’s space on one side (say macOS), you can reduce it and reallocate to Boot Camp as much as to the MacOs.

Check File System Format
Most modern Macs use APFS, but Boot Camp typically runs on exFAT or NTFS. So make sure not to reformat anything here or you’ll lose access.

Apply Changes Carefully
Once you’ve adjusted the storage, hit Apply and wait for the system to resize the partition. It should take a while but try not to interrupt this step.

My final thoughts are based on how easy it is to forget these steps especially when they haven’t accessed the knowledge in a long time.
